Former Targa Rally and Off-Road racer Joel Giddy will campaign an Aston Martin Vantage GT4 in the upcoming Golden Homes GT New Zealand Championship.
Though not competing in the full season, overseas travel commitments preventing him from being at round one, however he will join the championship for Round 2 at Hampton Downs in February.
“I’ve raced a lot in things such as the Targa rally we I ran a Subaru Impreza WRX with my brother, then more recently I’ve been doing off-road racing in a side by side, and had a Pro 4 Trophy Truck too,” said Giddy.
“I guess I was looking for more of a challenge, and talked to Richard Crabb who is going to race a McLaren having done off-roading like me.”
“Then the opportunity came up to buy Shane Helms Aston Martin GT4 that he raced last season, so we’re in.”
Giddy’s Aston Martin GT4 will be run out of Mach 1 Engineering who will also field a
Mercedes AMG GT4 for Jono MacFarlane, and a Porsche 991.2 for Paul Pedersen.
“I’ve done a test in the car at Manfeild, and it’s awesome. Such a great car to drive, really looking forward to joining the series at Round two.”
The next round of the Championship is at Hampton Downs on February 3-5, before heading to Taupo on March 17-19. The final round will be at Manfeild on April 14-16.
