Steele & Southam Duo Return in Porsche

The duo of Rob Steele and Paul Southam will campaign their Porsche 991.2 Cup car in the Open Class of the Summerset GT New Zealand Championship which gets underway at Taupo this weekend.

Steele and Southam are a small handful of drivers that will share a car this season. Under the category rules, competitors can share the car with up to two drivers – with the drivers undertaking a single 30 minute race each, then combining for the one-hour feature race.

The pair picked up a number of podiums and individual wins last season before ultimately seeing them both finish seventh in the standings by seasons end.

Steele says that consistency will again be key for a good championship result.

“We had a reasonable last season, some really good results, but some bad results which hampered us by the end for a better result.”

“As we’ve seen in the past, you can actually win the championship without winning a race. As long as you are regularly on the podium and inside that top five, you will keep accumulating good points.”

“We have a great group of supporting partners on board, look forward to working with them throughout the season, and getting some good results.”

The Steele/Southam Porsche entry will be supported by Giltrap Porsche, SIXT, Giltrap Group, Total Property Services, Ray Haslar Autohaus and In Motion.
