Super V8 joins Super Sprint series

For the final round of the 2023 season the Hamilton Asphalts Super V8s will crown their champion at the Super Sprint event being held at Hampton Downs 5-7 May.

Currently fronting 16 cars in three categories the series is beginning to grow as the new era of TA2 V8 Muscle Car series specification cars arrive in the country.

The TA2 car is a specially designed space-frame chassis made by Howe Racing Enterprises. It is powered by a GM Motorsport engine package that is regulated to produce 525 horsepower. Hampton Downs will host six entries – with more due into the country for the next summer race season.

Making their debut will be accomplished motorcross riders Amie and Brianna Roberts (Hamilton) – each in TA2 specification Camaro’s. Auckland’s Andrew Turner – current series leader, is the sole Mustang in the field. Hampton Downs local Andrew Sinclair (Dodge TA2) holds second with Manukau’s Brett Rudd (Camaro TA2) in third.

Also entered are two TraNZams and another eight NZ V8 Touring Cars Open series

cars. Five are V8 SuperTourers while former champion Nick Ross brings his Nissan TLX out for a run. Kaitaia’s Brady Wild current tops the points table while Ross sits in fourth. Kerry Jones (Waiuku) is in second and Rob Wallace (Tauranga) third.

Friday 5th is practice day with qualifying and a 15-lap race held on Saturday. Sunday morning features another 15-lap race with the third and final 15-laps to be held from 4:25pm – live to Sky Sport and TV3. Each race is worth 100 points with 20 up for grabs in qualifying.
